Monarch Academy Glen Burnie is celebrating Principal Kim Jakovics, who has been named the 2025–2026 George Arlotto Leadership Award Principal of the Year. The George Arlotto Leadership Award is presented annually to recognize outstanding school leadership.
Principal Jakovics learned the news this morning during a surprise celebration with The Children’s Guild President and CEO Jenny Livelli and Chief Administrative Officer Hughes Johnson, joined by Anne Arundel County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Mark Bedell and Assistant Superintendent Pat Crain.
“Kim’s dedication to our students and unwavering support for her staff is nothing short of inspiring. As a selfless leader, she exemplifies compassion, commitment, and humility in all that she does,” said Jenny Livelli. “Upon receiving her award, she humbly kept the focus on her incredible team and highlighted her commitment to putting student learning and school culture first, consistently leading by example.”
Kim has served as principal of Monarch Academy Glen Burnie since 2018 and has built a school culture rooted in strong relationships, high expectations, and meaningful opportunities for students to take ownership of their learning. Her leadership has also been recognized in prior years, including statewide honors through the Maryland Alliance of Public Charter Schools.
“Our school promotes high achievement, character growth, and teamwork through a focus on arts and technology, culture and character, and leadership and school improvement,” said Jakovics. “It is my honor to instill these characteristics into our students, and I am humbled to represent the wonderful work our entire staff does and be recognized as the leader of the school.”
Monarch Academy Glen Burnie, founded in 2009, is a tuition-free, publicly funded charter school serving kindergarten through eighth-grade students in Anne Arundel County.
