Dava Smith is an educational leader who brings both deep community ties and a strong instructional vision to her role as Principal of Monarch Academy Glen Burnie. She is committed to building a school culture grounded in high expectations, shared values, and a safe, supportive environment where every student is challenged to grow.

Prior to becoming principal, Ms. Smith was already part of the Monarch community as a parent for four years, giving her a unique dual perspective as both an educator and a family member invested in the school’s success. Her leadership is guided by three core priorities: community, growth, and belonging, reflecting her belief that education is strongest when schools and families work in true partnership.

Ms. Smith spent 14 years as an English teacher prior to moving into school administration, and her background also includes experience in arts integration. She brings this experience together with Monarch’s project-based learning approach to deepen student understanding, strengthen critical thinking, and increase student ownership of learning. She is passionate about fostering engaging learning experiences and believes strongly in the power of creativity in the classroom.

Ms. Smith is committed to listening, learning, and collaborating with all stakeholders as she works to build on the strong foundation established by her predecessor, Principal Kim, and to continue moving Monarch forward.
