Monarch Academy Annapolis eSchool Success Story

The Monarch Academy Annapolis eSchool was featured in the Capital Gazette this week. The article by Rachel Pacella reports the success of the program has led the eSchool to continue this Fall.  

The eSchool@MAA is a blended distance learning program option for pre-K through fifth grade students that was developed in the Summer of 2020. Instruction is 80% virtual and up to 20% in-classroom and provides the same rigorous programs and services as other county schools.  

In the Capital Gazette article, Adrianne Womack, a parent of a special needs student was quoted saying, “Sometimes I have tears, not of sadness, of joy,” she said because the program has made learning so much more fun for her kids. 

The eSchool will continue permanently when Anne Arundel County Public Schools are back in the classroom with hybrid and/or fully in-person learning. The program is available to any student in AACo. that applies to one of the Monarch Academies.

Monarch Preschool College Park opening soon

Monarch Preschool College Park, a program of The Children’s Guild Alliance, will open soon and is currently enrolling students.

The school offers a full-day year-round program. Monarch Preschool College Park is located in an 11,400-square-foot renovated space in College Park United Methodist Church off Rhode Island Avenue and Hollywood Road.

“We’re excited to introduce Monarch Preschool College Park to Prince George’s County,” said Jenny Livelli, president and CEO of The Children’s Guild Alliance. “We’ve built a beautiful new space and assembled a professional, capable staff that will provide a high-quality early education experience for children and families.”

Monarch Preschool offers project-based learning in an enriched environment. The school has convenient hours, flexible schedules and an open-door policy to collaborate with families.

“A Monarch Preschool student will experience real-life, hands-on learning activities. They will have the opportunity to explore learning throughout the school environment and take their learning home,” said Kristin “Krissie” Taylor, preschool director. “Students will be able to identify their strengths and talents to reach their full potential.”

Monarch Academy Annapolis holds virtual open house May 19 at 4:30 p.m.

Monarch Academy Annapolis, a public contract school with Anne Arundel County Public Schools and operated by The Children’s Guild Alliance, will hold a virtual open house for interested families on Wednesday, May 19, at 4:30 p.m.

Monarch Academy Annapolis is a primary performing visual arts school and follows the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, which challenges students to think critically and take responsibility for their learning as they explore local and global issues.

Among the school’s offerings, classrooms partner with teachers in Central and South America to teach Spanish language and culture. In addition, the school exclusively offers Canopy, a course that provides students the opportunity to learn and practice social-emotional skills utilizing an arts-integrated approach.

The school also offers the eSchool @ Monarch Academy Annapolis, a blended distance learning permanent program option for pre-K through fifth grade students. Instruction is 80% virtual and up to 20% in-classroom and provides the same rigorous programs and services. The eSchool will continue permanently even when Anne Arundel County Public Schools haver hybrid or fully in-person learning.

The Children’s Guild Alliance Celebrates National Foster Care Month with Foster Parent Information Session on May 26

The Children’s Guild Alliance’s Family Life Education Treatment Foster Care program will hold an online information session for prospective foster parents on Wednesday, May 26, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The Children’s Guild is recruiting foster parents for children who have experienced trauma or other challenges. Treatment foster care is a treatment-oriented approach to caring for a child with special needs.

May is National Foster Care Month, a time to recognize the 423,000 children and youth in foster care across the country. This year, National Foster Care Month focuses on how to strengthen connections and the role of family and youth engagement at every stage, according to the Children’s Bureau.

“Caring for children who’ve experienced trauma is a high calling and one we take seriously at The Children’s Guild Alliance,” said Jenny Livelli, president and CEO of The Children’s Guild Alliance. “We welcome families who have a heart for children and want the best in foster care training. We provide the resources you need and walk with you every step of the way.”

The information session offers an introduction to becoming foster parents and is open to anyone interested in the fostering process. The session addresses the requirements for becoming a foster parent including home assessment, major clearances and required documentation as well as home study and preservice training. Attending an information session constitutes the first phase of The Children’s Guild Treatment Foster Care preservice training and preparation.

The Children’s Guild Alliance offers the second phase of preservice training in the form of P.R.I.D.E. (Parent Resources for Information Development and Education) Foster Parent Training.

“Even during these challenging times, The Children’s Guild Alliance and our licensed foster parents can offer children in foster care the guidance, stability and love that are so essential for becoming successful adults,” said Terry M. The Children’s Guild Alliance’s Kids First Celebration honors Dr. Andrew L. Ross

The Children’s Guild Alliance, a nonprofit organization serving children, families and child-serving organizations in Maryland and Washington, D.C., will hold its 2021 Kids First Celebration, an evening honoring Dr. Andrew L. Ross, senior advisor and former president and CEO. The event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore.

At the event, The Children’s Guild Alliance will present the 2021 Sadie Award to Ross for his 26 years of visionary leadership of The Children’s Guild Alliance and lifetime dedication to putting kids first and transforming the way America cares for and educates its children. The Sadie Award recognizes people who embody the organization’s spirit and vision of making the seemingly impossible possible.

Dr. Andrew L. Ross became president and CEO of The Children’s Guild in 1995. When Ross joined The Children’s Guild, the organization had two special education schools, one group home and a $6 million budget. Today, with over an $80 million budget, the organization serves close to 6,000 children through two special education schools, four charter/contract schools, three therapeutic group homes, a treatment foster care program and a behavioral health program that serves students in 90 schools throughout Maryland.

Ross was instrumental in developing TranZed Apprenticeships, returning preschool programming to The Children’s Guild Alliance and creating Transformation Education, which puts the needs of the child ahead of the needs of the adult and creates a culture of learning to meet the individualized learning styles of each child using brain-based learning methods.

The Children’s Guild Alliance Holds Virtual Hiring Fairs on April 28 and 29, 2021

The Children’s Guild Alliance, a nonprofit organization serving children, families and child-serving organizations throughout Maryland and Washington, D.C., will conduct virtual hiring fairs in April for child-serving professionals seeking positions as teachers, teacher assistants, clinicians, school social workers and instructional and behavior coaches.

The hiring fairs will take place on: 

  • Wednesday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET for all The Children’s Guild Alliance career opportunities
